GOLDENS FOR ADOPTION
Our Rescue program like most Golden Retriever Rescue programs in the northeast, is receiving fewer Goldens to re-home than in past years.
Additionally, the number of interested adopters considerably exceeds the availability of Goldens. For these two reasons we have decided not to place photographs and descriptions of all of our available Goldens on this site. The dogs we feature on this site are only those with needs that lead them to be considered "special placements".
But we are asking that Adoption Applications be completed and sent to us so that, as a Golden comes into our program, we can consider the applicant's requirements, preferences, experiences and interests and can then take the steps necessary to carry out the introduction to a specific Golden.
If you are interested in adopting
a Golden from GRRCNY Inc., you should download and mail in one
of our adoption forms, this is the first
step towards adoption whether the dog appears on this page or
not.
GRRCNY does not place on a "first
come, first serve" basis. We look for the "right"
home from among our applicants to fit the personality and needs
of our Goldens. You might be that home - mail your application

MURPHY
Murphy is a now 1 ½ years old and is a neutered male. He is below standard in terms off height and is on a weight reduction program. Goal is to loose about 20 pounds. House manners are generally good: no toileting issues; he is not destructive of anything; sleeps through the night, either crated in bedroom or not crated. He will get on furniture if he can. Murphy plays roughly and for that reason we are saying no small children. He could benefits from continued obedience classes and his original owner completed one basic course before surrendering him to GRRCNY. Murphy thrives in the presence of other dogs and we are hoping for a permanent home with other dogs. hopefully one (s) that want to roughhouse with him. His acceptance of cats is unknown and, for that reason, we are suggesting a home with no cats. His hips are displastic and, as usual, proper weight maintenance and exercise (short walks at first and then increasing distance) will minimize the difficulty. Murphy is a sweet boy that needs kind but firm direction AND a canine playmate. All vaccinations and test are current. |
EMMA JEAN AND TAYLOR - PHOTOS COMING SOON!
EMMA JEAN, age 5 years and TAYLOR, age3 years, were together in both a first and second home, and remain together in the foster home of GRRCNY. Both were spayed recently by GRRCNY. Having always been together they are very bonded – its usual to find them both in the same crate, door open, sound asleep,
EMMA JEAN has shown herself to be accepting of other dogs, and TAYLOR accepting of some other dogs. We are trying to discover to what extent Taylor’s dislike of some other dogs is her way of trying to protect her friend, EMMA JEAN. The thought of separating them tugs at our heartstrings but it may be necessary.
EMMA JEAN is of typical size for a Golden while TAYLOR is below standard – quite small and small-boned..
Both will get on furniture if they can. Both were around small children in the first home but not since. Both tend to jump for attention and both would likely knock over children. While it was reported to us that both were around cats in the original home, this cannot be verified – for that reason we are suggesting no cats. Both need to be carefully leashed or within a fenced (secure) yard – no electronics. All vaccinations and tests are current. |
CAMI - ADOPTED
SARA - still looking for her forever home....
While reportedly not sisters, Cami and Sarah are said to be the same age and they look very much alike. Their original life is very unclear and not available to us. It is apparent that each has had a litter of puppies or perhaps two. Their size is small and well under the breed standard (they weigh approx. 50 pounds).
Cami and Sarah both have a congenital heart condition known as Sub-Aortic Stenosis (SAS). It can be predicted that the life of each will be shortened but isn’t affecting their day-by-day activities. Although surgery puts them at risk, GRRCNY is proceeding with scheduling spaying because of the other health risks (including further pregnancies) associated with not spaying.
Both Cami and Sarah are inclined to want to be “boss” over other dogs. It would be better if any home they are in has no other dog or, if so, a dog of either gender that has no interest in being top dog. Cami and Sarah will not be placed together. We have no information about their acceptance of cats – thus we are suggesting no cats in homes that consider them.
While a fenced yard would be preferable (no electronics), we will consider non-fenced situations with a great respect for security. Both Cami and Sarah walk on lead with no pulling. Neither have had any obedience training.
